Apple Intelligence Now Takes Up More Space on Devices

Apple Intelligence, the company’s AI system, has seen its storage needs almost double in just a few months. In September 2024, it used 4GB, but by January 2025, that number had grown to 7GB.

This increase is tied to updates in iOS 18.2 and macOS Sequoia 15.2, which introduced new AI-powered tools like Image Playground and Genmoji. These features rely on advanced on-device processing, meaning they can only run on devices with the latest M1 or A17 chips. While processing data directly on the device improves privacy, Apple still scans user content for AI training. This has led to less available storage space on devices after each update.

However, users are not happy. A survey showed that 73% of iPhone owners believe Apple Intelligence doesn’t add much value. Many also complain about problems like faster battery drain. With Apple planning to expand its AI features even more, users are worried about growing storage demands and whether these tools are worth the trouble.
