Giant Dinosaur Footprints Found in UK Quarry

In 2023, a quarry worker named Gary Johnson discovered an incredible find at Dewars Farm Quarry in South East England—200 dinosaur footprints from the Middle Jurassic Period, about 166 million years ago. These tracks are the largest dinosaur footprint discovery in the UK.

The footprints belonged to different dinosaurs, including the meat-eating Megalosaurus and plant-eating sauropods like Cetiosaurus. Some tracks overlap, which hints at possible interactions between the dinosaurs.

Researchers from Oxford and Birmingham universities studied the site using drones and 3D modeling. They found five trackways, including one almost 500 feet (150 meters) long. The tracks reveal fascinating details about how these dinosaurs moved, their size, and their environment.

This discovery builds on earlier finds in the same area from 1997 and shows how the ground deformed under the weight of these massive creatures, giving scientists a rare glimpse into their lives.
